* How do I advise my children? *

Muhammad Al-Baaqir said to his son,

“My son, Allah has hidden three things within three things:

(1) He has hidden His pleasure within good deeds, and so do not belittle any act of goodness, for His acceptance may be in it.
(2) And He has hidden His anger within sins, and so do not belittle any sin, for His anger may be in it
(3) And He has hidden His allies within His creation, and so do not belittle any person, for he may be one of them.”

This is how Muslims raise their children.

What example are you setting?

Parenting

Tarbiyyah (upbringing) of children is among the greatest deeds that do not cease, for every good deed that they learn and act upon the reward is for the one who taught them, and if they go on to teach their children the reward would be for the first teacher.

Not everything has a replacement.

You know, it really is from Allah’s mercy upon our weak selves that He hasn’t connected absolute happiness to anything other than Him.

Not to wives, husbands, jobs, children, countries, wealth, health or anything else, as these matters, if lost, can be replaced, or at least partly replaced.

But if Allah is lost in the life of a person, what can replace Him?

True misery isn’t in losing any of the above, but when the irreplaceable One is lost!

“Whoever does good, whether male or female, while he is a believer – We will surely cause him to live a happy life..”

[Al-Qur’an, Surah 16, Ayah 97]

* Allah, then parents *

* Allah, then parents *

Allah says,

“And We have enjoined upon man to be good to his parents. His mother carried him, increasing her in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years, saying: Be grateful to Me *and* to your parents; to Me is the final destination.” (Al-Qur’an, Surah 31, Ayah 14)

Astonishing ..

Gratitude to Allah *and* to parents are mentioned side by side.

Sufyan Ath-Thawri said,

“Whoever prays the five prayers has shown gratitude to Allah, and whoever makes Du’aah for his parents after those prayers has shown gratitude to them” (Tafseer Imam Al-Qurtubi)

Every child is born on Fitrah [true faith of Islamic Monotheism (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone)].

Narrated Abu Hurairah radi Allaahu ‘anhu:

Allah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم said, “Every child is born on Fitrah [true faith of Islamic Monotheism (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone)] but his parents convert him to Judaism, Christianity or Magianism, as an animal delivers a perfect baby animal. Do you find it mutilated?” Then Abu Hurairah radi Allaahu ‘anhu recited the holy Verses: ‘Allaah’s Fitrah (i.e., Allaah’s Islamic Monotheism), with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in Khalq-illah (i.e. the Religion of Allah – Islamic Monotheism), that is the Straight Religion (Islam)….” (V.30:30)
